I sud-coreani sarebbero di statura sensibilmente più alta rispetto ai nord-coreani, e la differenza deriverebbe da una diversa alimentazione. Insomma, nel nord-corea si fa la fame.

Si sta però cercando di porre rimedio al problema, e non soltanto con i campi standardizzati.

"Pyongyang, May 13 (KCNA) -- The Koryo Medicine Technical Center of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has developed active nutritive pills. According to Han Chang Gun, head of the center, the clinical test proved the pills, which have no side-effect, are efficacious for deficiency of mineral matters and vitamins and promote the growth of children. Children who have taken the pills for the time being, they grow 0.5 centimeter taller and 0.35 kilogram heavier than others in a month."
